Girlstart
Girlstart is a non-profit
organization created to educate and empower girls
in math, science, and technology.
SisterMentors
We are a community of highly motivated women of
color of different races, ethnicities and backgrounds
who come together to help each other complete
the dissertation and get the doctorate. Most of
us are the first generation in our families to
get an advanced degree or a doctorate.
Project ButterFly
Niambi Jaha is a writer, fine artist, graphic
designer and inspirational speaker. Her recent

designed to help young women of color build their

Girls
Going Places College Scholarship Program
is The Guardian Life Insurance Company's annual
initiative designed to help women create, invest
and protect wealth by rewarding the enterprising
spirits of girls ages 12 to 18. Guardian awards
college scholarships to 15 girls who demonstrate
budding entrepreneurship; are taking the first
steps toward financial independence; and make
a difference in their school and communities.
Scholarship prizes totaling $30,000 are awarded
among three top winners and 12 finalists each
year. The nomination period for the Girls Going
Places Scholarship Program begins September and
ends February. Winners and finalists are announced
in May. Scholarships are presented to each winner
and finalist in her community among her peers.
The
Heart of A Girl

The
mission of The Heart of a Girl books, seminars
& workshops is to inspire, motivate and
encourage girls to know that they are special,
talented creations, worthy of beautiful lives.
They are dedicated to positively impacting the
spiritual, emotional and entrepreneurial development
of girls ages 8 thru 18.
HarlemLive
An is award winning, critically acclaimed web
magazine produced by teens from throughout New
York City. It is a journalism program that teaches
students ages 13 to 21 how to run an online newspaper.
The publication, "HarlemLive," (www.harlemlive.org),
includes news articles, investigative stories,
opinion pieces, personal essays, poetry, photography
and video documentaries. The program is located
on 125th Street in Manhattan, the heart of Harlem's
commercial district, just a half block from the
historic Apollo Theatre.
Teenagers
run every aspect of the publication and are
assigned positions such as editor-in-chief,
managing editor, photo editor, reporters, layout
designers, administrators and technicians. Adult
mentors, including journalism professionals
from The New York Times, Black Entertainment
Television, ABC News, VIBE magazine, Time Magazine,
and Bloomberg News guide them through the process.
A partnership with Columbia University's Graduate
School of Journalism allows HarlemLive students
to work one-on-one with Masters Degree journalism
candidates as well.

Founded in 1982 in Columbus, Ohio, as a community-based
drug prevention and youth leadership program focusing
primarily on middle school and high school students.
The goal of its many projects is harnessing the
powerful influence of peer pressure-- making it
a positive force that encourages young people
to live free of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
The
Digital Clubhouse Network is a 501
(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing
and empowering youth to use technology to promote
service and build stronger communities.By working
on intergenerational, service-based projects that
give voice to people and issues in their communities,
our youth participants (age 12-18) develop digital
literacy, work skills, creativity and self-esteem
while helping build a more inclusive, tolerant
and compassionate society.
JustAct
JustAct is a national, nonprofit
organization promoting youth leadership and action
for global justice. Founded by students in 1983
as the Overseas Development Network, the organization
has been a forum for thousands of young people
to address global issues such as social inequity,
human rights, and environmental sustainability.
The Foundation The Foundation has a
strong record of crafting creative and effective
grantmaking, training, and public education strategies
to create and improve economic opportunities for
women in the United States; safeguard women’s
health & safety; and help girls sustain their
self-confidence and vitality.
INCITE!
Women of Color Against Violence is a national
activist organization of radical feminists of
color advancing a movement to end violence against
women of color and their communities through
direct action, critical dialogue and grassroots
organizing.
