In My Country
The Washington Post sends a black reporter (Samuel L. Jackson) to South Africa to cover the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings that heralded the beginning of healing after Apartheid. He is befriended by an Afrikaaner poet (Juliette Binoche) covering the hearings for South African radio. Day after day of brutal stories and rage make both journalists battle weary, and they seek each other out to determine how to bring solace to their souls in the face of such cruelty. |
