Planning a Disney Vacation on a Small Budget

Moms and Dads I’ve got good news to share! Believe it or not… everybody can afford to take their family to Disney and I’m going to tell you how AND I’ll even share the easiest way to SAVE up for your dream Disney Vacation. Now I know that most families (mine included) assume that an affordable Disney trip is about finding a cheap hotel outside the parks and getting a few discounted tickets. Truth be told, there is actually a better way to plan a Disney Vacation, where you can stay in amazing Disney Resorts with your family for about the same amount you’re spending on cheap hotels!

When I attended the 2nd Walt Disney World African American Mom Blogger Mixer, I was able to chat with Mommies on the official Disney Mom Panel. They knew just about everything there is to know about Disney World, specifically how to plan a vacation on a budget whether you have a big family or a small one. Heather, one of the moms has seven kids and she showed me that just about anybody can avoid to make their Disney vacation dreams come true. Here are a few things that I learned:

Disney has four Value Resorts that are comparable in price to hotels outside the Park. There are many benefits to choosing Disney Hotels as opposed to renting a room somewhere else. For starters, Disney has an intricate transportation system to take you to and from the airport, to all the parks, and all the resorts. You don’t have to worry about renting a car or spending money on gas, because your transportation is covered with your package.

One of the scariest parts about planning a Disney trip for most parents is the amount of money you spend on FOOD! This the exactly the reason why Disney created Disney Dining Plans, so that you can put it all in your package and NOT have to worry about the cost when you get there.

Getting a great deal on your vacation package is all about timing. Disney Moms say the rule of thumb for planning your trip is to plan at least one year in advance. Prime travel time is between ‘from August up until the Holidays’ and again after ‘Presidents Weekend / MLK and Easter.’ Basically, the right time to get a good deal is anytime OUT of the Holiday Seasons. During those periods Disney offers great deals, for example: you might get a free extra day for booking a 3 day trip!

Most Americans do 3 day vacations, but one of the perks of extending your stay, is the longer your stay, the less you pay per day!

If you want to crunch the numbers and really get a sense of how much a Disney Vacation will cost you, you can visit the Disney Resorts website and put together your own unique vacation package. You should also call Disney and speak to a representative over the phone, because they might be able to help you put together an even cheaper packages based on the current promotions and/or tweaking your dates just a little.

Once you create the vacation plan that works for you, you can actually make a down payment and pay for your trip on a monthly basis until you’ve paid it off! Don’t feel like you’ve got to spend a ton of money right away. You can create an affordable package and pay for it over time.

If you have an American Express, AAA, Disney Visa, you should check out their websites to see what Disney promotions they have.

If you have questions about planning your trip, you can ask the Disney Mom Panel.

If you like to volunteer, you can your family can get a FREE ticket to one of the amusement parks by participated in the Disney Give a Day, Get a Day promotion.
